1. Getting Excited over God

The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing. (Zephaniah 3:17)

God delights in us

If we look at the meaning for the Hebrew word for joy in the passage above, we would discover that it means to get very joyful, even to dance, spin around and leap for joy Now, let’s remember that this passage is speaking about our God and Creator. Can you grasp the reality of our God singing and showing this kind of emotion over us? Yet, that’s what God does over his creation whom he loves. So, let’s do away with the mentality that thinks of God as one who does not rejoice and delights in us his children.

Our Joy for Him

Now if God shows this kind of excitement over us, shouldn’t we get excited and emotional over him as well? Shouldn’t we be rejoicing and singing at the fact that he is our awesome God and Creator in whose (1)presents there is fullness of joy and at his right hand are pleasures forever more? And not only that, but we who have Christ Jesus in us will be spending eternity with God in paradise. How neat is that? Yet do we even dare to tap our feet or clap our hands or show any kind of emotion when it comes to worshiping Him? Oh, what’s wrong with us fellow brothers and sisters in Christ? Do not believe the lie that we must be reserved when it comes to worshiping and praising our God. We do need to pray and seek God’s help for us as a church to (2)praise him with our whole being holding nothing back as David did. He is so worthy, so let's truly get excited over our Awesome God.

Being Contagious

Okay now having said all that, I know that if you totally let loose at your next church gathering they may escort you out the door. But it only takes a few people excited about God to get others going as well. His joy is contagious and let us pray that everybody catches it. So, go ahead and be obsessed with him and be totally addicted to serving him in love, because lets face it, living for anything else will only lead you to emptiness.

God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by [that] man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. (Acts 17:24-31)

Over in (3)Proverbs we see Jesus Christ who is personified in the usage of the word wisdom. In this chapter at verse 30 and 31 we read: Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him; Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men. When He completed the world, He rejoiced saying, “my delights were with the sons of men.” Wow, God rejoices and delights in us his creation. I find it so comforting that God loves us and that he does delights in us. But not only that, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16). Oh God, you loved us so much that you’ve sent your Son who die for us sinners on the cross and suffered the afflictions of hell as well. But thanks be to our Father God, that death could not hold you Jesus and that you victoriously overcame the grave. Thank you Father for raising Jesus from the grave. We were bought at a price, so You oh Go, are so worthy of all our love and attention. Amen. (For info on Jesus suffering in hell, please click on this link)

Something to think about

Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me. (Isaiah 49:15-16) "I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands:" This has obvious and beautiful fulfillment in the nail-scarred hands of Jesus. As Jesus told Thomas in a post-resurrection appearance, look at My hands (John 20:27). When we see the nail-scarred hands of Jesus, we see how He has inscribed us on the palms of His hands. With such love, how could God ever forget His people? By David Guzik

So, in conclusion to all this, let us always remember how much Jesus loves us and in like manner to be in love with him. (4)Let the world experience our love and oneness with God and with each other so that all may see Jesus Christ in us. And let us not forget that we are the light of the world, so let the love of Jesus shine in our hearts as we tell the world about him. Our prayer and hope should always be that those who see us would see God in us, those who hear us would hear Christ speaking through us, and those who know us would know that his Spirit dwells is in us, and that they would crave what we have. Amen.

It only takes a spark to get a fire going, and soon all those around, can warm up to its glowing. That’s how it is with God’s love, once you have experienced it, you spread His love to everyone; you want to pass it on. What a wondrous time is spring, when all the trees are budding; the birds begin to sing, the flowers start their blooming. That’s how it is with God’s love; once you’ve experienced it, you want to sing “It’s fresh like spring”; you want to pass it on. I wish for you my friend, this happiness that I’ve found. You can depend on Him, it matters not where you’re bound. I’ll shout it from the mountain top – Praise God I want the world to know; the Lord of love has come to me, I want to pass it on.

  4. I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.. (John 17:21-23)

  • I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. (Galatians 2:20)
  • And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. (Mark 12:30-31)

2. Resting in God

Pray that All would Find It

When you think of someone resting, what automatically comes to mind; is it sleeping, kicking back under a shady tree? Yes, this may be what comes to mind, but, is that person truly at rest. Lets say that you're taking a walk through your local park, you notice that there is a person lying on the grass with a hat pulled over their head. Immediately once again, you think to yourself that this person is resting. On the other hand, in that same park, you run across a man working up a sweat digging up a broken sprinkler head, and on the contrary, you think this man is not resting. However, the real truth may be just the opposite. You see, you can be in that prone position as that first person, but in your heart and mind there is restlessness and anxieties and fears. Or, you could be as that second person who is working up a sweat, and yet be at total peace and rest.

You see, true rest is not that outward condition but it’s that inward condition which is of the heart. It’s that peace of knowing that there is a God who loves you and cares for you. It is God’s Holy Spirit who is dwelling in you, comforting you and giving you a hope regardless of your outward condition. So, why not put all your trust in God and let Him lead the way for you. Remember, your heavenly Father truly knows best so let him have His will and way with you. Trust in him completely for he will direct all your paths. And this my friend, is True Rest indeed.

  • Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
  • Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day. (Psalm 25:4-5)
  • Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. (Luke 1:78-79
  • "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (John 14:26-27)

There are those who unfortunately are going through life trying to earn their way into heaven on their own merit. And sadly, no matter how hard they try with good works and deeds, they never can quit feel any inward peace with God. And it’s not that they're doing worse than others, but it’s because they are going about it all wrong. Because the true works of God is not that which is based on our own good deeds, but it’s based on believing in the One Whom he sent, which is Jesus Christ. For Jesus said: This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent (John 6:29). And of course, we know that Jesus was referring about himself. We must realize that we can't enter heaven on our own merits or good deeds. We have already fallen short of this so there needs to be another way to get right with God.

Jesus Christ took on the punishment that was do us by dying on the cross and suffering in hell for us. Then, on the third day he rose from the dead conquering death and hell and is now seated at the right hand of our Father on high. So now, by believing in this finished work of God, we can enter into heaven. For Jesus Himself said: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16). Wow, you can’t beat that. Our God Himself pardoned all our sins so that we can spend eternity in paradise with him. And now, because of our right relationship with God, his Holy Spirit dwells in us and leads us in such a way that our lives will bring forth good fruit that’s pleasing to him. And if it’s pleasing to God, you can be best assured that you will be pleased also. Because his ways can only lead to true rest and peace.

  • But we are all as an unclean [thing], and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. (Isaiah 64:6)
  • For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
  • (a)"I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. (John 15:5) (b)"By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. (John 15:8)
  • There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. (Hebrews 4:9-11)

Below are some encouraging passages from God's word to help you either came to know Him, or help you in your walk with him, or even better yet, both. God is totally Awesome who made a way for you and me to come to him and receive everlasting life.

  • "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)
  • "This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends. (John 15:12-13)
  • But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)
  • But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 2:4-7)
  • By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down [our] lives for the brethren. (1 John 3:16)
  • He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. (1 John 4:8-10)

God is always thinking of you and me for our good. God says that all things work for the good, even if they happen to be uncomfortable for us at the time. Just remember that it's all for our good.

  • Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book? (Psalm 56:8)
  • For You possess my heart, O Lord; You took hold of me from my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, For I am fearfully and wondrously made;
  • For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. (Psalm 139:13-14)
  • Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me. (Isaiah 49:15-16)

We are to totally trust in God for all our needs. He promises to always take care of us even in the middle of the storm. The comforting thing is that nothing can separate us from his love. Keep your mind and heart always on God.

  • For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)
  • "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. "For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30)
