CAN'T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER

When you think of someone resting, what automatically comes to mind; is it sleeping, kicking back under a shady tree? Yes, this may be what comes to mind, but, is that person truly at rest. Lets say that you're taking a walk through your local park, you notice that there is a person lying on the grass with a hat pulled over their head. Immediately once again, you think to yourself that this person is resting. On the other hand, in that same park, you run across a man working up a sweat digging up a broken sprinkler head, and on the contrary, you think this man is not resting. However, the real truth may be just the opposite. You see, you can be in that prone position as that first person, but in your heart and mind there is restlessness and anxieties and fears. Or, you could be as that second person who is working up a sweat, and yet be at total peace and rest.

You see, true rest is not that outward condition but it’s that inward condition which is of the heart. It’s that peace of knowing that there is a God who loves you and cares for you. It is God’s Holy Spirit who is dwelling in you, comforting you and giving you a hope regardless of your outward condition. So, why not put all your trust in God and let Him lead the way for you. Remember, your heavenly Father truly knows best so let him have His will and way with you. Trust in him completely for he will direct all your paths. And this my friend, is True Rest indeed.

  • Trust in God with all your heart, And do not exalt your own wisdom. In all your ways know wisdom, That she may cut a straight path for you; And your foot will not stumble. (Proverbs 3:5-6 Sept.)
  • Make known Your ways to me, O Lord, And teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation, And on You I wait all the day. (Psalm 25:4-5 Sept.)
  • Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. (Luke 1:78-79
  • "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (John 14:26-27)

RESTING IN GOD'S FINISHED WORK

There are those who unfortunately are going through life trying to earn their way into heaven on their own merit. And sadly, no matter how hard they try with good works and deeds, they never can quit feel any inward peace with God. And it’s not that they're doing worse than others, but it’s because they are going about it all wrong. Because the true works of God is not that which is based on our own good deeds, but it’s based on believing in the One Whom he sent, which is Jesus Christ. For Jesus said: This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent (John 6:29). And of course, we know that Jesus was referring about himself. We must realize that we can't enter heaven on our own merits or good deeds. We have already fallen short of this so there needs to be another way to get right with God.

Jesus Christ took on the punishment that was do us by dying on the cross and suffering in hell for us. Then, on the third day he rose from the dead conquering death and hell and is now seated at the right hand of our Father on high. So now, by believing in this finished work of God, we can enter into heaven. For Jesus Himself said: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16 KJV). Wow, you can’t beat that. Our God Himself pardoned all our sins so that we can spend eternity in paradise with him. And now, because of our right relationship with God, his Holy Spirit dwells in us and leads us in such a way that our lives will bring forth good fruit that’s pleasing to him. And if it’s pleasing to God, you can be best assured that you will be pleased also. Because his ways can only lead to true rest and peace.

  • We all are become as unclean, and all our righteousness is like a filthy rag. We fall off like leaves because of our wrongdoings; thus the wind will carry us away. (Isaiah 64:5 Sept.)
  • For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
  • (a)"I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. (John 15:5) (b)"By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. (John 15:8)
  • There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. (Hebrews 4:9-11)

GOD'S LOVE FOR US

Below are some encouraging passages from God's word to help you either came to know Him, or help you in your walk with him, or even better yet, both. God is totally Awesome who made a way for you and me to come to him and receive everlasting life.

  • "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)
  • "This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends. (John 15:12-13)
  • But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)
  • But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 2:4-7)
  • By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down [our] lives for the brethren. (1 John 3:16)
  • He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. (1 John 4:8-10)

GOD THINKS ON US

God is always thinking of you and me for our good. God says that all things work for the good, even if they happen to be uncomfortable for us at the time.
Just remember that it's all for our good.

  • I declare my life to You; You set my tears before You, as also in Your promise. (Psalm 56:9 Sept.)
  • For You possess my heart, O Lord; You took hold of me from my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, For I am fearfully and wondrously made;
Marvelous are Your works, And my soul knows this very well. (Psalm 139:13-14 Sept.)
  • Will a woman forget her child, so as not to have mercy on the offspring of her womb? But even if a woman should forget these things, nevertheless, I shall not forget you,” says the Lord. (Isaiah 49:15 Sept.)

TRUSTING GOD FOR EVERYTHING

We are to totally trust in God for all our needs. He promises to always take care of us even in the middle of the storm. The comforting thing is that nothing can separate us from his love. Keep your mind and heart always on God.

  • For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)
  • "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. "For My yoke [is] easy and My burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30)

"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. "For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30)
